RASHIDA JONES

This B list television actress on a hit network show has gone from one hit show to another. Both of them are still on the air. She also does movies, but they are not usually box office hits. Anyway, with her very nice weekly paycheck instead of spending it on porn stars and blow, she uses one paycheck each month to rent a furnished apartment for a year for a family that comes to her via a homeless shelter in LA. Her contact person at the shelter finds the family and our actress moves them in so the family has a chance at a better life. She has done this so far for seven families and four of them are now paying their own rent. March 28th, 2011

Casino Royale Cancelled: Letter from WPF CEO, Daniel Wilkins

It is with regret that we must inform you we have made the decision to cancel Casino Royale, in light of the federal indictment of the three largest online poker websites. While our event is neither online or illegal, we felt it was not in the Foundation’s best interest to be associated with the negative press these events have brought to the game of poker, especially so close to the event. With that said, we are already in the process of determining what our new event will be. Please stay tuned because we are confident that the Foundation and Social 360 will be announcing the details of that new event very soon!

Best regards,

Daniel

Barbie IRL of the Day: People talk and talk about how unrealistic Barbie’s 39-18-33 measurements would be if she were a real live girl. Hamilton College student Galia Slayen took the talk a step further and actually built a real life-size Barbie.

Slayen, who dressed her 6-foot-tall Barbie doll in a size 00 skirt she wore during her battle with anorexia, says she created the model to get people taking about eating disorders, but doesn’t blame her illness on the plastic icon’s distorted proportions alone.

“She’s one small factor, an environmental factor,” Slayen told TODAY.com. “I’m blond and blue-eyed and I figured that was what I was supposed to look like. She was my idol. It impacted the way I looked at myself.”

W+K Studio designed this poster and all proceeds will be donated for relief efforts in Japan. Beautiful.

Love that artists are getting on board with disaster relief. She’s one of the few that I’ve seen giving 100%.

100% of proceeds to be donated to the Red Cross for Japan.

Featured Artist: Zachary Brown

So before our last blog died and went to heaven (bye bye wordpress, hello tumblr), we were doing a feature on Abstract Artist, Zachary Brown

Zachary has been featured in publications since 2008 and we’re proud that his work was apart of the very first annual VonSchmalhousen Charity Art Show “Quiet Roar” at the Doo Gallery in Atlanta, where his painting was one of the first to sell.

His paintings range from 10x10’s to 48x36 and have energizing titles like “Does this Mocking Bird Taste Funny to You?” and “Slumber Party.” Zachary describes his wok with the enthusiasm and unpretentiousness that is very much lacking in the artistic community these days

Abstract painting is truly my passion.  For me, the act of painting is success.  Rather than sales or prestige, creation is my goal.

Sometimes I will plan the entirety of a piece before I begin while other times the direction will be totally fluid and won’t be known to me until I am complete. I predominately use acrylic paint and will frequently use unconventional media for accent or texture.

My current body of work is my escape. I paint as a therapy of sorts; it helps me feel like I belong on Earth. Abstract painting allows me to relieve the swelling in my subconscious.

Check out more of his work on his site and his blog
